The involvement of undergraduate and graduate students in active research invigorates our projects and provides valuable training to the next generation of scientists and conservation stewards.
The Gardens has four research staff members who are affiliate faculty at the University of Colorado Denver and advise graduate students: Jennifer Ramp Neale, Ph.D., Melissa Islam, Ph.D., Rebecca Hufft, Ph.D. and Andrew Wilson, Ph.D. We also work with students completing internships for academic credit.
Current and past graduate student projects include restoration at Chatfield Farms, cheatgrass competition, grassland restoration and analyzing plant biodiversity in mitigated and non-mitigated areas. Past undergraduate research internships have focused on conservation genetics, long-term monitoring of rare plants, botanical surveys and collection management.

The Gardens also has hands-on horticulture summer internships providing students the opportunity to work alongside our professional horticulture staff and volunteers in the daily operation of maintaining botanic gardens.
