Volunteer Shareholders

We offer a volunteer shareholder position for shareholders who would like to take their commitment to a higher level with the CSA. "Working shares," or volunteer shareholders, are asked to support the CSA by being out in the field harvesting or distributing vegetables for three hours a week (a total of 60 hours for the duration of the season). Keep in mind that these volunteer positions can be physically demanding.

• You must first purchase a small or full share with the Chatfield Farms CSA.
• We anticipate shares selling out each season.
• You must be onboarded as a Denver Botanic Gardens volunteer to receive the volunteer shareholder discount.
• Requirements for joining the adult volunteer program:
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Submit a new ongoing volunteer program interest form 
  • Watch the new volunteer orientation video
  • Complete a volunteer placement interview
  • Complete a background check form
  • Optional: Attend a new volunteer welcome visit

Volunteer Positions

CSA Field Volunteers

Volunteers work alongside the CSA and Market Garden growers helping to harvest, weed and care for our Market Garden or CSA fields. These shifts are generally in the early mornings on weekdays for three hours. This is physically demanding and rewarding work as you are part of a team and are supporting our mission.

Cut Flower Garden / Bouquet Production

Volunteers help with general weeding and garden maintenance of the CSA Cut Flower Garden, along with the assembly of mixed bouquets for CSA shares or at our markets. This shift lasts for three hours and is generally scheduled for weekday mornings. This position is great for anyone with a desire to work in a flower garden and with an eye for bouquet design.

CSA Distributions

Volunteers help with the set-up and tear-down for distribution of CSA shares to its shareholders, along with cleaning and unloading bins from a truck. This shift is an early evening weekday shift that generally lasts four hours. A friendly customer service-focused attitude and knowledge of cooking locally would greatly benefit a volunteer in this position. This position gets to share their love and knowledge with shareholders who may have questions about the food or the program.
