Homeschool Make and Take Programs

Program Overview

Homeschool Make and Take programs offer a space for children and their grownups to connect with natural materials and create together. These self-guided and self-paced programs are designed to provide a creative environment that sparks imagination. The Gardens provides the space and supplies. You and your family provide the ideas and creativity. Each Homeschool Make and Take Program includes a self-guided exploration guide and the space and supplies to complete a project to take home.

Important information regarding program logistics will be communicated to you by email closer to the date of the program. Please watch for an email from familyprograms@botanicgardens.org in your inbox. If you don’t see an email in your inbox, please check your junk or spam folders.

Tips and Reminders to Help You and Your Child Get the Most Out of the Program

  • Homeschool Make and Take programs are designed to be hands-on and engaging for both the registered children and adults. We encourage both adults and children to work together to learn from each other.
  • The hands-on nature and exploratory aspect of our programs sometimes leads to messy discover. Dress in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • We encourage both adults and children to work together to complete the program project and explore the content provided. The program consists of a self-guided exploration of a Garden area and the opportunity to use a variety of materials to create a project related to the program’s theme.
  • Please come prepared to spend time both indoors and outdoors. We recommend dressing in layers, wearing appropriate footwear and bringing a water bottle, hat and sunscreen with you.
  • Depending on the size and interests of your group, this program will take 1-2 hours to complete.
  • We ask that you limit personal phone use during the program. You are welcome to take pictures of your child with your phone as they explore and discover.
