Seedlings Programs at York Street
Program Overview
Seedlings programs offer a fun, hands-on way for young children, ages 18 months to six years, to explore the plant world while developing an understanding and appreciation for plants and their importance. Classes include interactive explorations, nature walks and stories for children and their caregivers.
Important information regarding program logistics will be communicated to you by email closer to the date of the program. Please watch for an email from familyprograms@botanicgardens.org in your inbox. If you don’t see an email in your inbox, please check your junk or spam folders.
Tips and Reminders to Help You and Your Child Get the Most Out of the Program
- Seedlings programs are designed to be a program in which the child and caregiver are engaged together while exploring nature. To help your child get the most out of the program it is important that you help your child listen for activity directions, guide them from one activity to the next and redirect your child when needed. We encourage both adults and children to work together to learn from each other. An adult must be present during the program.
- At this age children are still learning how to be part of a group setting. If your child is not engaged in an activity and becomes distracting to others it is ok to take a break from class and explore a nearby garden area until your child is ready to join the group again.
- The hands-on nature and exploratory aspect of our programs sometimes leads to messy discovery. Dress in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
- Seedlings programs have indoor and outdoor components. Participants should come prepared to spend time both indoors and outdoors.
- Some Seedlings programs have tasting components. If you or your child have any allergy concerns, please contact familyprograms@botanicgardens.org for a detailed list of the items your child may be tasting or handling during the program.
