Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors & Ambassadors: Hydro Heroes at Chatfield Farms
Program Overview
Hydro Heroes offer Girl Scouts the opportunity to explore water at Chatfield Farms through the lens of important ecosystems of Colorado. Girl Scouts use STEM techniques to discover how ecologists examine water quality, learn how Coloradans get and use water and create hydro art.
Important information regarding program logistics such as entry and exit policies and check-in location will be communicated to you by email closer to the date of the program. Know Before You Go
- Program Location: This program takes place at Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms located at 8500 W Deer Creek Canyon Road, Littleton, CO 80128.
- Program Length: Depending on the size and interests of your group, you can expect to spend an hour and a half to two hours completing the program. Groups are welcome to continue exploring Chatfield Farms on their own after the conclusion of the program.
- What to Bring: Food and beverages are not available for purchase on site. We recommend bringing a water bottle and snack with you. Please dress appropriately for the day’s weather. We recommend wearing layers, a hat and appropriate footwear. Gloves, sunscreen, raincoats and umbrellas are also encouraged.
- Check-In: Upon arrival, your group will check in with a staff member and receive the materials your group will need for the day. Each Group Leader will be provided with a map, for navigating Chatfield Farms.
Additional adults and non-participating siblings who have registered as part of the program are welcome to join your group as you complete the activities, or explore Chatfield Farms on their own. - Program Format: This program consists of several activity stations set up in various locations throughout Chatfield Farms. Staff and volunteers are present at each activity station to greet your group, provide you with the materials you need to complete the activity and assist with any questions you might have.
Hydro Heroes Activity Stations
- Hydro Art: Girl Scouts will use water in an unusual way to create a hydro masterpiece to take home.
- Water and You: Girl Scouts will explore how they use water on a daily basis and learn about how Coloradans have historically utilized water.
- Colorado Ecosystems: Girl Scouts will learn about Colorado ecosystems and take a closer look at the Colorado Ecosystem with the most water.
- Water Quality: Girl Scouts will discover the importance of water in Colorado and beyond and design different ways to keep those resources healthy.
- Planting: Girl Scouts will explore plant adaptations. Each Girl Scout will plant a water conserving plant to take home.
Cancellation and Rescheduling
To cancel or modify your registration, contact familyprograms@botanicgardens.org. Cancellations can be made for any reason up to one week before the program. Cancellations with less than one week’s notice are non-refundable, except for illness-related cancellations.
