Our Lunar New Year programs bring the stories, artistry and time-honored practices of Asian communities to life through vibrant art, storytelling and community connection.

Presented in partnership with Far East Center, Lunar New Year celebrations and programs return for a second year to Denver Botanic Gardens.

Community organizations across the Denver metro area are invited to help celebrate the Year of the Horse by presenting curated activities at the 2026 Lunar New Year Market. This is a meaningful opportunity to share your culture, engage with visitors and contribute to a vibrant community celebration. Orchid Showcase

Discover hundreds of colorful blooms, including beautiful orchids from the Gardens' collection. Often associated with renewal, prosperity and harmony, orchids are especially meaningful during Lunar New Year—a time of new beginnings. The Orchid Showcase is therefore a fitting centerpiece at the Gardens during this time. As you stroll through the display, the orchids invite mindfulness and reflection, offering a tranquil way to begin the new year by slowing down and fully experiencing nature.

 

Far East Center Lunar New Year Offsite

Join our community partner, the Far East Center, for their Lunar New Year celebration to welcome the Year of the Horse. Enjoy outdoor shopping for red envelopes, plants, flowers, decorations and fresh fruit while experiencing the magic of the Lunar New Year through lion and dragon dances, cultural performances and delicious offerings from local restaurants and pop-up vendors.

 

Invitation to Ikebana

June 20, 1-3 p.m.

Ikebana is an expression of our respect and appreciation towards nature. We observe life through the arrangement of plants. During each class, participants receive hands-on instructions to put together an arrangement to take home. This workshop is open to all skill levels.

 

Beginning Bonsai

Saturdays, May 23 & June 20
9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Discover the centuries-old Japanese art of bonsai with Colorado bonsai artists in a fun, hands-on class that covers its history, techniques and common myths. Each participant receives all materials—tree, pot, wire, soil and gravel—and leaves with a finished bonsai to take home. The course is designed by renowned experts Hal Sasaki and Larry Jackel, ensuring knowledgeable, personalized guidance throughout.

 

Chi Kung for High-Level Wellness

January – May

Experience Chi Kung, a 4,000-year-old Chinese system of movement, breathwork and meditation that forms the foundation of many Chinese arts, including Tai Chi. This weekly class explores how to generate, circulate and balance Qi while learning multiple forms such as 18 Style, Mt. Hua 6 Healing Sounds, Seasonal Chi Kung and 8 Brocades. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, the practice can be done standing or seated and may support relaxation, strength, balance, flexibility and overall well-being.

Join us on a thoughtfully crafted journey through Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka—three of Japan’s most iconic, culture-rich cities. Explore landmarks like Meiji Shrine, Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji and Osaka Castle. Enjoy immersive experiences including a rickshaw ride through a bamboo forest, a sushi-making class and a visit to a stunning digital art museum, with free time built in for relaxation, shopping or your own discoveries.
