June 13, 2019 Larry Jackel , Bonsai Specialist

The seventh annual Spring Bonsai Exhibition features Les Siroky. This exhibition is on view in the Bill Hosokawa Bonsai Pavilion at the Gardens Saturday, June 15 through Sunday, June 23 and is included with admission.

As an extension of his interest in plants, Les was encouraged by initial attempts at caring for bonsai were not successful, the aspect of a plant as an artistic creation captivated him. In an effort to learn more about the care and creation of bonsai, Les attended the Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society June 1998 Show and consequently joined the society.

Les enjoys creating a starting bonsai from readily available nursery stock so his bonsai collection consists of elms, spireas, cotoneasters, barberries and junipers as well as other varieties. He finds that the practice of bonsai as a living art form satisfies his gardening instincts and challenges his artistic skills, while the maintenance of his collection is a relaxing activity.
