Yoga Nidra at the Gardens

Yoga Nidra, also known as "cosmic sleep," is a form of guided meditation that aims to induce a state of deep relaxation and inner peace. This non-doing practice uses tools and exercises to relax the physical body and engage the subtle body. Therapeutic benefits can include stress reduction, increased clarity/focus and improved sleep. Each month focuses on a new theme that connects to the nature and season of the gardens, as well as your inner landscape. This hour-long class begins with a brief introduction of Yoga Nidra, followed by a few simple and gentle movement exercises. Assume a comfortable and supported position (generally lying on your back). No prior experience of yoga or meditation is needed. All skill levels are welcome.

February: Orchids - Intention & Reflection

Orchids can represent the journey to find truth and the courage to be unique. These symbols of strength and power invite us to set intentions for 2026 while reflecting upon 2025. In honor of both the Orchid Showcase and the Lunar New Year, this session focuses on setting an intention (Sankalpa) supported by courage and truth.

March: Daffodils - Spring Equinox

As the natural world awakens, this seasonal shift inspires a fresh start and a sense of reemergence. Daffodils are one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring and symbolize hope, rebirth and new beginnings. Take a moment to pause and invite a new perspective. Dive into self-care and rejuvenation in this spring equinox-themed session.

April: Sweet Pea - Plant Seeds of Intention

April showers bring May flowers, and the sweet pea symbolizes strength and good luck. Now is the time to plant your "seeds of intention." Join us as we plant the intentions we want to flourish. Practice begins with breath work to ease the mind and soft, spacious movement to prepare the body to grow the intention (Sankalpa).

May: Lily of the Valley - Spring Renewal

This session invites you to press the reset button, take a breath and observe. Lily of the valley represents return and restoration. In honor of this May flower, this practice incorporates a few restorative yoga postures to help support the nervous system. This is spring renewal and you are invited.

June: Rose - Summer Solstice

In honor of the summer solstice, let's hold gratitude for the abundance of inner and outer landscapes. In Eastern cultures, roses can symbolize a harmonious balance between yin and yang. This session includes some gentle, standing movement before we soften to the support of the earth, holding both yin and yang energies.

Special Instructions: Students are asked to bring a yoga mat, blanket and pillow. Layers, socks and eye covering are also recommended as your body will cool down during practice.
