Math in Bloom
Join Gardens staff and mathematicians from local universities for an eye-opening hour-long tour where we'll discover the mathematical patterns hidden in plain sight. Through close observation and interactive activities, you'll explore Fibonacci sequences in pinecones, the golden ratio in petals, pi in the circular forms of flowers and tree rings, fractal branching in trees and other surprising connections between math and the natural world. Each participant will take home a new appreciation for the mathematical beauty all around us as well as a fun goody to remember the experience. Whether you're a math enthusiast or simply curious, this tour will forever change the way you look at plants.
Math in Bloom programming is made possible through generous support from Simons Foundation and in collaboration with botanic gardens across the country.
