History for Homeschoolers at Plains Conservation Center: Think Like a Historian - Analyzing Primary Sources
How do historians know what life was like in the past? The answer lies in primary sources—documents, photographs, objects, and other materials created by people who lived through historical events. In this class, students learn how historians analyze these sources to better understand the past.
Using historical photographs, letters, and artifacts from Colorado’s plains in the 1800s, participants practice breaking down primary sources to uncover their meaning and context. By examining who created a source, why it was made, and what it reveals about life on the plains, students gain a deeper appreciation for how history is researched and interpreted.
History for Homeschoolers is a series of classes geared towards students in grades 4th-9th.
