History for Homeschoolers at Plains Conservation Center: Archaeology
Before this land became the Plains Conservation Center in the 1950s, many different people called it home. Indigenous communities and homesteaders lived, worked , and traveled across these plains, leaving traces of their lives behind. In this interactive class, students step into the role of archaeologists by examining real artifacts uncovered during construction and restoration projects at Plains Conservation Center.
Through hands-on investigation, students analyze objects from the past to discover what they reveal about the people who once lived here. Participants learn how archaeologists study artifacts, ask historical questions , and interpret clues from material culture. After investigating an artifact, students share their findings and theories with the group, piecing together the stories of the plains’ past..
History for Homeschoolers is a series of classes geared towards students in grades 4th-9th.
