Celebrate your child's special day at the Gardens! We provide everything you need to make your party a success, while minimizing the impact on our planet. All you need to do is bring your child's favorite food.

Garden Parties and Garden Planting Parties are recommended for children up to age 12. For older youth and adult parties, visit our private events pages to learn about space rentals in the main Gardens.

Birthday parties are offered year-round.

  • Saturdays and Sundays: 9:30-11 a.m., 12:30-2 p.m. or 3:15-4:45 p.m.
  • Weekday afternoons: 3:15-4:45 p.m.

All children’s birthday parties take place in Morrison Discovery Center, located at the north end of Mordecai Children’s Garden. Capacity 45 people.

Party dates and times must be reserved at least three weeks in advance.

How many children can I invite?
The party rental fee includes up to 20 children, including the birthday child. To provide a safe, positive experience for party guests and Gardens visitors the Gardens is unable to accommodate more than 20 children per birthday party.

How many adults can I invite?
The party space has a capacity of 45 people (both children and adults). The Gardens recommends at least one (1) adult be present for every three (3) children.

I’ve invited 20 children, but I don’t know how many adults and siblings will attend with them. How do I make sure people don’t bring their whole family to the party?
We suggest including wording like this in your invitation: "This invitation includes birthday party admission to Denver Botanic Gardens for one child and one grownup. You are welcome to bring other members of the family, but they will need to pay for admission to the Gardens and explore on their own."

Do you offer children’s birthday parties year-round?
Yes! Birthday parties can be scheduled year-round.

If I schedule my party during the winter season when the Mordecai Children's Garden is closed (November–February) what spaces are available for my guests to explore?
All children’s birthday parties take place in the Morrison Discovery Center classroom located on the north end of the Children’s Garden. If you schedule a party November–February, you and your party guests have access to the classroom, attached greenhouse, outdoor courtyard area and the main Gardens. Winter is a great time for children to explore the seasonal changes throughout our indoor and outdoor garden spaces!

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my party?
Your birthday party rental fee is nonrefundable. If you need to reschedule the date and time of your party the Gardens will work with you to find another date and time to hold your party. Please keep in mind, during spring, summer and fall we have limited flexibility in our scheduling availability.

How much time do I have to set up the party room?
The party room will be available to you 15 minutes before your scheduled party time to bring in and set up any materials you choose to bring with you. You have an additional 15 minutes at the conclusion of your party to remove all your items from the party spaces.

Can I drop off materials before the party or store my party materials after the party?
The party room will be available to you 15 minutes before your scheduled party time to bring in and set up any materials you choose to bring with you. You have an additional 15 minutes at the conclusion of your party to remove all your items from the party spaces. The Gardens is unable to store/receive materials outside these timeframes.

Can I bring in food and beverages for my guests to enjoy during the party?
Yes, you are welcome to bring in food for your party guests to enjoy. Alcohol is not permitted at children’s birthday parties.

Can I hire a caterer for my child’s birthday party?
No, due to space constraints onsite caterers are not permitted.

Do you provide tableware?
Yes, compostable serving ware (plates, cold cups, silverware, napkins) is provided as well as tablecloths, cake serving utensils and candles.

How is the room set up?
The standard party set-up includes 3 tables with 24 chairs and 12 additional chairs set up around the room. The room also includes a cake table and counter space for any refreshments you many want to provide for your guests, a “happy birthday” banner and potted plants for decorations.

Is there a Denver Botanic Gardens staff person present at my party?
A Gardens staff person is onsite to assist you during your reserved party time but will not be present with you and your guests during the party. Staff assistance includes logistics during party set-up and take-down and materials management. The staff person does not attend the party but will be available on an "as needed" basis.

For planting parties, a staff member will be present at the planting station for 30 minutes.

What happens in the party room? Do you lead any special activities?
During your party time, the party space is intended for you to use as a celebration space. Celebrations may include cake, food, presents, etc. The Gardens will not lead activities in this space but will provide self-guided materials. Please remember that the party room is only part of your experience and that you will also have access to the Gardens to explore and play.
