Join Lisa Weddel, co-owner of DIY Designs Inspired by You, for a new kind of monthly happy hour! Each session features a different design style and technique, and each participant takes home an impressive, one-of-a-kind arrangement. Grab your friends, grab a beverage, and learn how to design a stunning floral arrangement built around seasonal blooms!

All floral supplies are provided and bloom selection changes seasonally. BYOB wine and beer are permitted. Please be sure to bring valid ID if consuming alcohol.

 

January - Underwater, utilizing icy winter colors

A composition having gone or more parts placed underwater, usually designed in a round-sided glass container to create interest through magnification. This is a recognized exhibition category of the National Council of Garden Club, Inc.

 

February - Tropical, using minimalist technique

A tropical arrangement typically utilizes fewer stems because each bloom makes a bold impact. Learn how to create a one-of-a-kind stunning arrangement that highlights the principles and elements of floral design with tropical blooms and foliage.

 

March - Stacking

A vertical arrangement composed of relatively flat plant materials and/or other objects that have been placed directly on top of one another.

 

April - Abstract, using pavé technique

A design which employs non-realistic use of natural and/or manmade materials solely as our elements - line, form, color, and texture in space - to create a statement evoking a well thought out emotion.

 

May - Pot-et-Fleur

An assemblage of two or more growing plants in one container, in combination with an arrangement of cut flowers. This is a recognized exhibition category of the National Council of Garden Clubs, Inc.

 

June - Dozen Roses

A dozen roses is one of the most traditional arrangements for any occasion. Learn the secrets to making this arrangement at home during the month when roses are at their best.

 

July - Biedermeier, celebrating summer with ice cream inspired arrangements

A rounded or conical floral arrangement named for a German style of interior design of the early 1800s. A Biedermeier design is typically created with compact spiraling or concentric circles, each featuring a particular flower or color.

 

August - Waterfall, using veiling technique

A cascading design resembling a waterfall in appearance. Descending lines, sometimes intentionally crossed, and several layers of different, typically sheer materials with delicate textures emphasize depth and create a flowing effect. Veiling technique used.

 

September - Della Robbia

A composition characterized by the dominant use of fruit in design. The style is named for the4 Terra Cotta Relief work of the Della Robbia family of Renaissance Italy.

 

October - Underwater, spooky items hidden throughout the arrangement

November - Phoenix

A floral composition in which tall materials appear to burst out from the center of a rounded arrangement. The style was named for the ancient bird of Egyptian mythology that rose from the ashes of its own fiery destruction.

 

December - Hedgerow

A precise, upright design of parallel stem placements in which plant materials are aligned or massed in multiple layers. Also known as a garden wall or by the English term  Beecher s Brook . We will use baling and binding techniques.

Lisa Weddel AIFD PFCI AAF has been in the floral industry for over 30 years.  She has been active in all areas of the industry from designer, teacher to owner of several businesses. Lisa has a floriculture degree, is an Iowa Master florist, as well as being an accredited member of the American Institute of Floral Designers organization where she currently holds the position of President of the South-Central Chapter.  In addition, Lisa has served on the Board of Trustees of the Professional Floral Communicators International as Chairman.This is an organization under the umbrella of the Society of American Florists.

Past floral accomplishments include designing at the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA for over 16 parades as a designer as well as a team leader. She designed on the floral team for President George W. Bush's 2005 Presidential Inauguration, designed at the 2019 Kentucky Derby.
