Drawing on Tradition: Pattern Design in the Style of Florence Broadhurst

Though the name may not be familiar, we have all seen the iconic designs of designer Florence Broadhurst. With a personal history as intriguing as her patterns, Broadhurst dominated the interior design world in the 1960s and '70s. Her patterns have seen a huge resurgence in recent years. Drawing on nature as inspiration, Broadhurst created hand-printed wallpaper with clear large-scale patterns. Learn how to simplify and stylize botanical elements to establish a two- or three-color design that plays with movement and structure. Using a proven process to make a repeating pattern, prepare several of your own coordinating designs to become wallpaper, gift wrap, fabric or a combination of all three! Fee: $245 member, $295 non-member. Prerequisite: Botanical Illustration in Colored Pencil II.
