These collections document vascular plants and fungi from the Southern Rocky Mountain Region. The herbaria hold historic collections, uncommon species, and recent collections. Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi is one of the most diverse, well-collected and actively curated fungal collection in the region. The Gardens natural history collections also include a small ethnobotany collection and an insect collection. Within two years, these collections will move to the Freyer - Newman Center, which will allow the collections to continue to grow and be accessible to researchers and the public.
Free docent-led tours of the natural history collections are usually offered twice a month on Fridays at 1 p.m.
