Requirements to become a Docent:
- Complete volunteer orientation in addition to hybrid docent training (3 hours per month over 6 months starting August 2022)
- 30 hours hybrid docent training over nine months
- Qualifications:
- Dedication to learning and sharing about the natural world, art, environmentalism
- Public speaking and interpersonal communication skills
- Curiosity and flexibility
- Passionate about working and learning with diverse audiences
- Volunteer two shifts per month (flexible hours) and attend two meetings per month on Tuesday mornings (eight hours total)
- Shadow tours and engage with current docents
Opportunities at York Street
- Prescheduled three-hour roving shifts to engage visitors, answer questions and share knowledge
- Prescheduled one-hour specialty thematic tours such as Tropical Trails, Seasonal Discoveries and Nature-Inspired Design
- Prescheduled one-hour tours of current exhibitions in Freyer – Newman Center
- 30-minute drop-in tours
- Two-hour Science Chats in Science Pyramid or Freyer – Newman Center
- Two-hour Learning Cart shifts on topics such as Colorado-native plants and aquatics gardens

- Prescheduled three-hour roving shifts to engage visitors, answer questions and share knowledge
- Prescheduled one-hour specialty thematic tours
- 30-minute drop-in tours
Opportunities at Mount Goliath (June – August)
