There’s a new serial in town! Modern Farmer, our newest magazine, has just arrived at the Helen Fowler Library (located in the Boettcher Center across from the bathrooms). If you’re one of those people who wishes they could just sell everything and buy a little hobby farm in the country (obviously I am one such person), then this is the read for you.

Each of the ten issues has featured a different farm animal (dog, cow, duck, sheep, alpaca, etc.), farm news from around the world, stories of those who farm, a miscellany of growing-related content, and articles by and about legends such as Joel Salatin, Wendell Berry and David Mas Masumoto.

Naturally there are recipes and projects, too, but don’t be discouraged by ingredients such as chickweed and rabbit; I like to read those kind of recipes as exposés rather than to-dos. Given that Colorado has been plenty wintry, now is a perfect time to dream about our lives ahead.

Please note: Denver Botanic Gardens members may check out books, VHS tapes or DVDs for a three-week period, plus an additional renewal if needed. Magazines, journals, reference items and special collection materials do not circulate. Please remember to bring your membership card.
