herbarium database specialist

My primary area of interest is to understand how to transfer the wealth of information stored within the physical aspects of a natural history collection into a digital form that is easily accessed by researchers and the general public. My exploration into this area has been enhanced by examining museum collections and the various museum management techniques both in the United States and the United Kingdom.
My job function is to pave the way for the information from the unique collections stored within the Kathryn Kalmbach Herbarium and the Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi to be publically available on the Internet. I will be involved in the continued digitalizing of the collections through databasing label information and digital photography, allowing both local and international researchers an opportunity to access our collections for their work. I am also an active member in maintaining the collections and utilizing the best practices to preserve the physical specimens, as well as processing new specimens collected each year during the field sessions. My scientific understanding of the physical specimens assists my work in maintaining the digital collections to the highest standard possible.
