It is difficult to find an ink tool that can produce a line that equals the delicacy and fluidity of a quill. The earliest metal nibs were excavated at Pompeii. Joseph Gillott started to manufacture steel pens in 1825 and Gillott crow quills are still in general use today. In this guided, fast paced sketching class, students will become comfortable using ink and quill to sketch vegetables, fruits, seedpods or flowers using lines, marks and stipple. Students will build sketching speed and confidence throughout this five-week course. Fee: $225 member, $280 non-member. Prerequisites: Pencil I, Pen and Ink 2, or Expressive Ink or Certificate in Botanical Illustration.
