COLEOPTERA & FRIENDS: PAINTINGS BY ROBERT SPELLMAN
Feb. 13 – May 12
Gates Garden Court Gallery
Denver Botanic Gardens
Robert Spellman uses color and texture to create enchantingly rich canvases. In this exhibition, the isolated, ethereal images of beetles and flowers feel simultaneously scientific and mystic. Often painting over old canvases and incorporating old fabrics in his surface treatments, the formal qualities of the images give way to an archaeology of layers and meaning.
Reception: Feb. 13, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Artist Talk: 6:30 p.m.
RSVP for receptions and artist talks to Exhibits@botanicgardens.org [2].

Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Gardens’ living collections encompass specimens from the tropics to the tundra, showcasing a plant palette chosen to thrive in Colorado’s semi-arid climate. The Gardens' dynamic, 24-acre urban oasis in the heart of the city is now in its 53rd year, offering unforgettable opportunities to flourish with unique garden experiences for the whole family – as well as world-class education and plant conservation research programs. Additional sites at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield, a 750-acre wildlife and native plant refuge in Jefferson County; and Mount Goliath, a high-altitude trail and interpretive site on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, extend this experience throughout the Front Range.
