centennial gardens

Centennial Gardens is located on the northeast side of Elitch Gardens, just off 15th and Little Raven. This intricate garden encompasses five acres made up of plants in a classic formal design with a Colorado twist.

centennial gardens french garden design in downtown denverCentennial Gardens knits together traditional formal French garden design with a Colorado plant palette that requires little water. The garden uses native plants as a replacement for the water-guzzling varieties more commonly found in formal gardens.

Former Denver Mayor Webb and First Lady Wilma Webb were inspired to design Centennial Park after a visit to the formal gardens of Versailles in France. Upon their return, the Mayor asked Denver Botanic Gardens to design a formal urban garden along the South Platte for the city to enjoy. This area used to be a car-crushing plant, and has transformed into a beautiful area where the community can enjoy a classic formal garden.

Admission to Centennial Gardens is free. Rental of the facility is available for occasions, including weddings or parties. Metered street parking only (8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday, Sunday free). RTD bus #10 stops a few feet from the Garden along with the Front Range Express from Colorado Springs. Centennial Gardens is also along the South Platte River path--bicyclists, pedestrians, and dogs on leashes are welcome.
