Green Team Unpaid Internship | Internship | Background:Denver Botanic Gardens has an active Green Team made up of staff members from many departments. The Green Team is involved in improving sustainable practices within the organization and educating the public about these practices. An internship has been developed to focus on projects that meet these goals. Although the internship is unpaid, it will provide excellent experience in bringing sustainable practices to life, as well as flexibility to define and undertake projects of interest to the intern. Applicants should be able to initiate and follow through on projects with staff support and should have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the concepts of sustainability.

Horticulture Internship | Internship | Apply by Feb. 22, 2010. Denver Botanic Gardens is located in an urban setting on 23 acres. This is a hands-on internship that provides the opportunity to work side-by-side with the Gardens’ professional staff. Work assignments include planting, pruning, weeding, watering, and maintaining the many outside display gardens, container displays and the tropical displays in the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory. Educational field trips, lectures and special projects will round out the program, which highlights gardening in the Front Range and the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Interns will be required to do a final report and presentation of their special project.

Plant Records/Curation | Internship | Number available: One-TwoApply by: Feb. 22, 2010The Plant Records intern will gain exposure to a wide variety of plants throughout the Gardens, working with the Plant Records and Horticulture staff. Major projects include mapping, inventory, plant identification and labeling. Interns will gain expertise with BG-BASE plant collection management software, BG-Map plant mapping software, AutoCAD software and plant mapping methods. Familiarity with plant nomenclature and plant identification is required. Field trips will be offered throughout the summer. Interns will be required to prepare and present an independent project at the end of the internship.

Education/Center for Continuing Education | Internship | This hands-on internship provides the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional education staff and volunteers involved in the daily operation and implementation of youth and family education programs at a botanic garden. The focus will be on curriculum development and teaching of summer family programs. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently completed a college program (including graduate programs) in Teacher Preparation. Students should have completed their sophomore year of college. Hands-on classroom experience and curriculum development experience is desired. College credit may be available at the discretion of the applicable college or university and is the responsibility of the student.
