The “Moth”er of Orchid-dom

Between now and February 24, the Orangery at Denver Botanic Gardens is hosting the annual Orchid Showcase. In addition to the blossom show being put on behind the glass walls of the collections greenhouses, the transitional space of the Orangery itself is festooned with orchids, mostly hybrids of the genus Phalaenopsis.

Cornus kousa

  Asian dogwood (Cornus kousa) "Asian dogwood? Surely photographed in Oregon, or perhaps New Jersey?"  Nope--taken at Denver Botanic Gardens last June. There are several specimens--this one in the Rock Alpine Garden, but also at Waring House that reliably bloom late every spring.

Wondering what a Tibetan Singing Bowls "Sound Healing Concert" is all about?  It is an opportunity to lay down (if you wish) and receive some seriously good vibrations....literally!!!   Sound healers Jason and Chris Anne Coviello will begin the concert with Jason playing his Hang Drum which is a very rare steel drum that is made by only two people in the world.  Some say it sounds like a stringed instrument.  Jason's Hang Drum is tuned to the note that vibrationally corresponds to the heart chakra and when he plays the drum, he takes you on a heart-opening journey.

In many places, the changing of the leaves hearalds the beginning of autumn.  From my windows, I can see many colors, some quite brilliant in the sun. But most of the trees on my street are still green--not giving in to fall at all!  I am like them. Sure, its a bit nippy before sunrise, but I have not admitted that fall is really here. Autumn requires more sweaters than I have on now...

2013 Summer Concert Series Summary

Time to celebrate fall: grasses are glowing in the late afternoon light and the leaves are still changing colors all over the Gardens. Come visit Denver Botanic Gardens soon! Every garden has something visual to offer. Or take a walk at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield and enjoy nature and our working farm. Summer is over, and so is the 2013 Summer Concert Series at York Street and Chatfield. Did you make it to most of the concerts or just one?
